Connecting an agent
Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your notes, what each approval lets it do, and how to disconnect.
Why connect one
An agent like Claude or ChatGPT can search your notes and talk them over with you: what you were doing this time last year, every trip you wrote about, how a long project went. With your OK it can add notes for you too. It’s entirely optional, and nothing is connected until you connect it.
Connecting
In your agent’s app, add a custom connector with this address:
https://notes.yourversionnumber.com/mcp
The agent opens Release Notes in your browser to ask for your approval. Sign in if you need to, and the consent screen says which agent is asking and what it would see. Signed in, the address is also on Connect an agent, with a Copy button, and in Settings, under Connected agents.
What you approve
Reading is the one approval every connection has. The rest are separate boxes, shown when the agent asks for them (Upcoming always is), each off until you tick it:
- Read your notes. Your whole archive: the words, tags, places and weather, with any transcripts and photo descriptions you turned on, and the rest of your account to read: releases, badges (while they’re shown), your settings and the activity log. Never your email address, your own address for notes or your calendar link.
- Also allow photos and recordings. The photos, recordings and PDFs themselves, by private links that last ten minutes.
- Also allow adding notes when I ask. It can add notes when you ask it to, and add to or rewrite the notes it added itself. It can’t change your other notes, and it can’t delete anything.
- Also allow adding photos, recordings and PDFs to those notes. Only with adding notes, at most 4 files and 4 MB a call. They’re kept like the files you add yourself.
- Also allow reading and changing my Upcoming dates. Your Upcoming dates, to list, add, change and remove. It never touches a note.
A note an agent adds says so, as “added by Claude”, say, on the web, in the email and in your export. You can edit or delete it like any other.
An agent’s service keeps what it reads under its own privacy and retention policies. Connecting never turns on Release Notes’ own transcripts or photo descriptions, and an agent can’t change your settings.
Changing what it may do
Each connection is listed in You, then Settings, under Connected agents, with what it may do. From there you can allow Upcoming or files for a connection you already have, without connecting again, or turn off adding, which keeps reading.
Activity, under You, shows each connection’s reads as one line a day, with how many times it read your notes, and each change to what it may do. Settings has the recent requests too, under Recent agent activity: the time, the tool and the outcome, never what was searched for or returned.
Disconnecting
Disconnect in Settings ends a connection at once: the agent can’t read or add anything more. What it already read stays with the agent’s service, under its own policies, and a private file link it already has works for at most ten minutes more.
