Upcoming
Birthdays, anniversaries, trips and events you're looking forward to, remembered in the morning email and in your calendar.
What it’s for
Upcoming keeps the dates ahead: people’s birthdays, anniversaries, trips and one-time events. When one is close, the morning email says so. These are plans, not notes: they don’t count toward your streak or show up in search. When the day comes, write what happened in your release notes.
Adding a date
Add a date asks what kind it is:
- Birthday and Anniversary come back every year. Add the year, if you know it, and Upcoming shows the version number a birthday turns, or how many years an anniversary counts.
- Trip has a first and last day, and a destination if you like.
- One-time event has a day, and a location if you like.
Each date can have one tag, like #family, to group it with others. You can keep up to 200 dates, past ones included.
Reminders
Reminders come only in the morning email, up to 3 at a time, with a link to the rest. Each date chooses how many days ahead to remind you: unless you change it, a week before (two weeks for a trip), the day before and on the day. A date can have up to six reminders. Turn Include in my daily email off and a date stays in Upcoming without a reminder.
There’s no other message, and nothing is sent to catch up on a reminder that was missed while your emails were paused.
Finding a date
Filter the list by Kind and Tag, or type in Words: a date’s title, its tag, its kind and its destination are all searched, so “paris” finds the trip. Past one-time dates fold away under “Past dates”.
A tagged date has a button to write a note with its hashtag: it opens Today with the tag already in the draft. Nothing is saved until you save the note.
Edit as text
Edit as text shows every date as one line of text, so changing many at once is one edit rather than many clicks. Each line starts with the kind and the date, then the name, with a #tag, a destination, email:off or a list of reminder days anywhere after it. Delete a line to remove that date.
Preview changes shows what would be added, changed and removed before anything is saved. Apply it, and it all saves at once, or none of it does.
In your calendar
Under In your calendar, Make a calendar link gives you a private address to subscribe to from your calendar app. It keeps your dates current there, with each birthday’s version number. It sets no alarms: reminders still come only in the morning email.
Anyone with the link can read your dates, so keep it to yourself. New link replaces it, and calendars using the old one stop updating; Remove link stops it altogether.
With an agent
A connected agent can keep your Upcoming dates too, if you allow it: list them, add or change them, and remove them, up to 50 dates a call. It’s a separate approval from reading your notes, and it never touches a note.
